Cheesy again

Last weekend Ruediger and I did a trip. Guess. Right, we went into the mountains again (what else is here to see?).
But this time we went on a glacier. And learnt how to cross it. And what to do when someone falls into a crevasse (cut the rope and run away!).

Desperate housewives... or how many implements do you need to make a cup of tea?

Here's how it starts.

She wanted a cup of tea. So she put the electric kettle - Exhibit A - on, and waited for it to heat.
But of course, nothing happened.

So she took - Exhibit B - a long-handled spoon, and went to flick the switchgear that trips each time there's an overload in the kitchen.

She comes back. Looks at the kettle again. Nothing yet!

Then, out of her little bag comes - Exhibit C - a little immersion rod. She plugs that in, already looking forward to the aroma of the Jasmine tea.

BANG. sizzle. phsssssst.
Ok, ladies and gentlemen, we have - Exhibit D - an immersion rod in two parts. Cable now divorced from the business end of the immersion rod.

So she goes back to the good ol' fashioned - Exhibit E - gas stove. Pours the water in, and waits for it to heat.

Meanwhile, her flatmate - ummm, Exhibit F?? - decides to show her how it's really done.
Plugs in the kettle (convinced it's a mistake SHE was making!) and waits with a decidedly superior stance, while she sips her tea already.

Exhibit G... think he might have forgotten something????

Snicker, snicker!!!! Oh, and btw, the kettle didn't work even after he had put the switch on.

PS - If this really was an episode of Desperate Housewives, I bet a 22 year old , really hot Mexican electrician would be displaying butt cleavage in her kitchen right now... and a calming cup of tea would be the last thing on her mind!

Ahhh well, the lives we lead!

Crumbs of cake & coffee dregs

The Commune falls eerily silent...
Copious cups of coffee have been consumed. And Stefan, returning from a lunch date (hmmmmmm!!!!) brought back chocolate cake to go with it.

So where is everyone else?

Nayana took off for a weekend in Kodi - she said it was for a wedding, but then took a suspiciously small bag and NO PRESENT visible.

Vinuta decided to spend the weekend at home with her parents. Well, that's understandable, especially this time.

Swati, of course, is in Cheese Land.

Her replacement - well, not really her replacement, but the person who will now occupy her room - Ashish, is in Turtle Land, trying not to get arrested.

That leaves Namrata and Stefan.

Make that Namrata, her computer, Stefan and his computer. Almost the only sounds for the last 24 hours have been that of keys on the two laptops. Except of course for the last 45 minutes, when Germany plays Sweden at the World Cup. (I'm actually uploading during half-time break.)

And Stefan is actually being rather unsocial... first, he turned down an invitation to go out to dinner and celebrate what will certainly be a win for Germany. (What kind of German is this?!?!) Then, to make matters worse, he's monopolizing the bean bags. What kind of person flings himself across TWO bean bags, leaving his flatmate to crouch uncomfortably on the sofa?

He'll be cooking dinner tonight, you can be sure of it. Or lunch tomorrow. Or both!!

Ah well... at least the broadband got installed at last, so it's easier to blog now, perhaps even Skype if any of the commune-ists decide to come online!

In the meantime, they've resumed play in Germany... coffee anyone??

Cheese Land

I am not yet 24 hours in Switzerland and already on a mountain.
After 5 months India the whole landscape here looks like a faked bollywood film secene. It is too nice. Too clean. And no street dogs at all. Wuff.

Mountains

More mountains and two Germans and a Swiss.

Again mountains but now also a lake.

It was more difficult than it looks like from the pic!

Finally a break!

...

What a nice day. Although no Indian crossed my way. I tell you!

One down, four to go!

One little bird has already flown the commune nest, and we miss her already. Swati, you better upload a blog soon to let us know what's happening at your end of the world, darling!

Meanwhile, here're some pictures of the fantastic party we had to bid you farewell...

Unfortunately, there are no pictures of the 'mood lighting' with which the party began, but I'm sure none of us (especially Swati the Stranded) will forget the electricity blow out that left our house in darkness while all our neighbours had electricity. I'm sure, by the end of the party the neighbours wanted to find the electrician who'd fixed it for us, and tie him to the stake.

But it did look lovely without the lights too.. Candles everywhere, buntings, streamers and a strange Happy Birthday sign hanging from the walls and a freezer bursting full of beers! Though, ummm, yes, there was no electricity so of course there was no point in actually stuffing them into the freezer. But at the time, I guess it seemed like a useful place to hide them.

Once the electricity had been fixed, Nayana and Vinuta decide to... Get down on it!

... and Rock the party!

with two variations of the same step?

Spot the 'dangerous drunk' in the picture? Some of us had bruises to show for his... enthusiasm.

Divya's netted one... "Can I throw this one back?"

Somo's dangerous ballet moves... Swan Lake it ain't.

The sparks were flying, the eyes were lit up, the dance floor was burning up...
but after hours of chemistry this is the closest they got to a kiss that night.

...though of course, the evening ends on a senty note for some of us. Turtles always have that effect on Swati, don't they?

What we Really look like

The less evil sistaah decides to post some nicer pictures of the commune-istas...

Looking for Stefan, perhaps?

He's ... ummmm... attending to some Sustainable Agriculture somewhere. As usual.

This is how nice Swati and Nayana can look when they try!

This is how much love there is in-house ;-)

This is how popular Stefan can be!

and THIS is what Vinuta looks like when she's photographed by someone who actually likes her!!!

The Commune

Nayana's not always this excited... but it was the day her red sandals made their debut!

It's easy to see who created this blog... Swati, you're evil!

Stefan's the resident handyman. Sometimes we let him choose the music and clean the table after dinner.

If this is how Swati will remember Vinuta... tsk tsk

... and this is what happens when Namrata joins parties.

I TELL YOU!!!
